BBC CUTS GAY TORCHWOOD SCENE

The BBC has cut a gay sex scene from the popular sci-fi series Torchwood, which features a bisexual leading character.

According to various reports, the television network decided that the sizzling scene between Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) and a barman (Canadian actor Dillon Casey) was too hot for British television.

A violent gruesome scene was also reportedly cut from Torchwood: Miracle Day, which is a co-production between BBC Worldwide and the Starz pay-TV network in the US.

A BBC insider told the Sun newspaper that the cut had nothing to do with the homosexual aspect of the scene, but that it was simply too explicit considering that the show has many younger fans.

“It wasn’t that it was a gay scene that worried people, but just the fact that it was such an explicit sex scene full stop,” the source said.

The episode, however, will reportedly be broadcast uncut in the US on the Starz channel.

“The UK and US versions of Torchwood are slightly different,” a BBC spokesperson told the Sun. “However, these differences do not change the story in any way and the strong storylines are first and foremost to the series.”

Torchwood, a spin-off of the classic Doctor Who franchise, debuted in 2006 and features the openly gay Barrowman portraying the bisexual intergalactic hero, Jack Harkness.
