In Pictures: Gert-Johan Coetzee’s Disney Collection
Out and proud South African designer to the stars, Gert-Johan Coetzee, has unveiled a new photoshoot highlighting his recent limited-edition capsule collection with Disney.
While this is the first such collaboration with Disney in South Africa, Coetzee joins the likes of the Karl Lagerfeld fashion house, which also produced a capsule collection with the iconic Disney brand in 2023.
The photoshoot by Hannes Danzfuss took place in the windows of the Graham Contemporary art gallery nestled in Hyde Park Corner, Johannesburg.
The gallery’s striking artwork served as a breathtaking backdrop as the models posed, capturing the essence of some of Disney’s much-loved characters.
The collection is available to shop online and will also be in Preview stores in Sandton City, with key pieces available at Menlyn Mall, starting February 2025.
An LGBTQ Fashion Trailblazer
Gert-Johan Coetzee is renowned for his luxurious and innovative designs, having dressed many international stars over the years, including Kim Kardashian, Halle Bailey, Cardi B, and Oprah.
Coetzee became a trailblazer for the local LGBTQ community when his wedding to former-husband Vicky Visagie was the first-ever gay celebrity wedding to be featured on the South African lifestyle programme, Top Billing.
For the past nine years, Coetzee has partnered with the Northwest School of Design (NWSD) where he studied, to award bursaries to deserving fashion design students.
