Meet Strictly Come Dancing’s First Drag Performer and Winner
UK drag sensation Tayce has made history as the first drag performer to compete on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing, claiming victory in this year’s Christmas Special alongside professional dance partner Kai Widdrington.
The Welsh drag queen, rapper, and model is best known for dazzling audiences on the 2021 second series of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, where she placed joint runner-up.
Tayce has since become a familiar face in the entertainment world, appearing on celebrity shows and performing to crowds in London and New York.
For the Christmas Special, Tayce and Widdrington delivered a show-stopping cha-cha to 100 Degrees by Kylie and Dannii Minogue.
Their electrifying routine earned perfect scores from the judges and had the audience on their feet.
Judge Craig Revel Horwood called the performance “absolutely fierce, serving realness, serving fab-u-lous.”
Tayce triumphed over a celebrity line-up of competitors, including Gladiators star Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, podcaster Vogue Williams, comedian Josh Widdicombe, actor Tamzin Outhwaite, and former racing driver Billy Monger.
“They came to sleigh, and they did just that! Tayce and Kai are your Christmas 2024 champions! Condragulations!” the BBC announced.
After the win, Tayce shared her joy with fans on Instagram, calling it “one of the best experiences of my life.” She praised Widdrington for being “an amazing mentor, teacher, partner, and most importantly, a friend!”
Reflecting on the victory, Tayce described the moment as “surreal.” She wrote: “To be the first queen on Strictly AND win feels like a moment in time, and hopefully, this is the start of more progression within mainstream media. Thank you everyone for the love and support again.”
According to British tabloids, the BBC is so thrilled with Tayce’s groundbreaking appearance that they’re reportedly considering her for the next full series of Strictly Come Dancing.
It seems the future is sparkling bright for Tayce—and we can’t wait to see what she’ll do next!
