In Pictures: Lesotho Pride 2024
Lesotho’s 2024 Pride event, held on November 9th in Maseru, marked a vibrant and inclusive celebration for the country’s LGBTQIA+ community. Participants showcased creative blends of traditional Basotho attire with Pride themes, symbolising both cultural and queer pride.
The event aimed to counter the misconception that queerness is a foreign concept, instead emphasising the colonial roots of anti-sodomy laws and advocating for societal acceptance and legislative progress. For many, the event provided a rare space to celebrate their identities freely, boosting mental health and fostering a sense of community in the face of widespread societal stigma.
The Pride march, filled with music, colour, and joyous energy, culminated at the Maseru Club, where speeches and performances highlighted the themes of unity and inclusion. As participants united in solidarity, they envisioned a Lesotho where everyone could live authentically and without fear.
