Johannesburg Pride 2024: Everything You Need to Know

The 35th annual Johannesburg Pride is returning to the streets of Sandton on Saturday, 26 October 2024.

This year’s event marks a significant milestone, celebrating 35 years since Africa’s first-ever Pride march, which took place in Johannesburg on 13 October 1990. (Read about the history of Pride here!)

It promises to be a day of unity, love, and a powerful stand for equality.

Johannesburg Pride Parade Route:

The Johannesburg Pride parade will begin on West Street, turning left into Rivonia Road, then left into Fredman Drive, before looping back onto West Street for the grand finale.

Expect a vibrant and colourful celebration as thousands march for equality and visibility in one of Africa’s oldest Pride events.

Important Notes:

Cooler boxes, alcohol, food, and weapons are strictly prohibited from being brought into the event.

The event will feature an exciting array of performances, including live vocalists, electrifying DJs, and dazzling acts that reflect the diversity of the LGBTQ+ community. The celebration will be packed with music, dancing, and an unforgettable atmosphere as everyone comes together to celebrate Pride.

“Pride is more than a celebration—it’s a call to action,” said the organisers. “As we honour 35 years of Johannesburg Pride, we also acknowledge the ongoing fight for safety, equality, and justice for all, particularly those affected by gender-based violence, intimate-partner violence, and femicide.”

The celebration doesn’t stop with the parade! The official Johannesburg Pride Afterparty kicks off at Hotel Sky from 9:00 PM and runs until sunrise. Enjoy a choice of the Pool Party or the Rooftop Party with amazing beats and incredible vibes.
