Johannesburg Queer Chorus Marks Pride Month with UJ Performances

The Johannesburg Queer Chorus (JQC) will be celebrating International Pride Month with two special performances at the UJ Arts Centre on 22 June.

These shows, a matinee at 15:00 and an evening show at 19:00, promise to be a powerful musical celebration of unity, resilience, and the strength of community.

The concert, titled “Unity – Unbroken Completeness” will feature a diverse repertoire of songs. These include timeless classics like Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Memory and Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah, as well as contemporary hits like Mika’s Grace Kelly and Billie Eilish’s Oscar-winning What Was I Made For.

The selection is sure to have the audience humming along and itching to dance.

The JQC is a vibrant, innovative community choir that has quickly grown since its founding in 2020. With over 50 members from the LGBTQIA+ community and their allies, the JQC provides a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for people to gather and share in a collective musical experience.

Throughout the pandemic, the JQC persevered and continued to thrive, delivering successful concert seasons with a diverse musical repertoire spanning classical, musical theatre, and pop genres.
