Contrats! Moshe Ndiki and Phelo Bala are engaged!
Congratulations are in order after entertainers Moshe Ndiki and Phelo Bala, one of South Africa’s most visible gay couples, got engaged on the weekend.
On Sunday, they both announced on their social media platforms that Phelo had proposed to his now-fiance at a surprise sunset picnic overlooking the Johannesburg skyline.
“He said yes!??” tweeted an ecstatic Phelo along with a picture of the two lovebirds which also featured Moshe displaying what appeared to be a diamond-encrusted ring on his finger.
In a close-up shot of their intertwined hands holding a glass of champagne, Moshe joked: “I didn’t even do my nails (not that I do them) but wtf ? HE PROPOSED!”
A later video clip showed the jubilant couple celebrating at home, which is currently being renovated. They were joined by hundreds of well-wishers on social media who congratulated them on their engagement.
There’s no word yet on a possible wedding date, but Moshe seemed to suggest in a post that they would first have a traditional ceremony before a white wedding.
Phelo is a singer and is part of the well known Bala Brothers trio, while Moshe is a TV presenter, actor and social media celebrity.
Moshe was recently named an ambassador for Telkom and is also promoting the use of PrEP (the HIV prevention pill) among gay and bisexual and other men who have sex with men (MSM) through the Engage Men’s Health #PrEPup campaign.
The duo were recently nominated for a Feather Award in the category of Cutest Couple. Their mothers, Nozuko Bala and Nomalinde Ndiki, also scored a Best Rainbow Parenting Feather Award nomination for their public support for their celebrity sons.
