Somizi Mhlongo is threatening legal action if former friend Bonang Matheba does not remove references about him from her controversial biography.

Sunday World reported that the openly gay Idols SA judge’s management has sent a letter to the TV personality and radio host accusing her of including untruths about him in the book and demanding that these be cut out.

“Our client doesn’t have a problem with his name being used in the book as long as the details and information relating to events are truthful,” said Somizi’s spokesman Thato Matuka. “Our concern at this stage is that this is not the case.”

He added: “We hope the letter will be received in the good spirit in which it was sent and that an amicable resolution to this matter can be agreed between the parties.”

Somizi’s anger appear to be directed at Bonang’s claim in her book that she ended their friendship because he sided with her ex, DJ Euphonik, despite her claims that he’d abused her. It’s understood that Euphonik has also demanded that she remove references to him from her book.

Bonang has denied that the biography contains lies about the two men. “Everyone has a right and responsibility to tell their story,” she told Sunday World. “Every account to life’s events is subject to individual interpretation. [This] is an account of my life, from my perspective and my truth”.

She insisted that, “[This] is not about settling scores, but a story of self-belief, self-love and self-preservation.”

Somizi and Bonang both recently released their respective biographies. While his book has become a best seller, hers was slammed for including inaccuracies and multiple typographical and grammatical errors. Exclusive Books subsequently pulled Bonang’s book from its shelves and offered anyone who had purchased it a refund.

While the row about the books unfolded in South Africa, Somizi was living it up in LA where he represented MTV Base Africa on the red carpet at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday.

The ostentatious star turned heads with his outrageous all-white ensemble and a Diana Ross-style hairstyle at the event. Living up to his extravagant image, he also made sure to boast on social media about his expensive tastes and the luxurious perks of being a celebrity.
