Here’s the first man to represent the CoverGirl makeup brand
Who says only women can wear makeup? Katy Perry has revealed that the CoverGirl makeup brand’s newest ambassador is male social media sensation James Charles.
The 17-year-old New York makeup artist has half a million followers on YouTube and Instagram and is the first man to represent the American cosmetics company.
“All of our CoverGirls are role models and boundary-breakers, fearlessly expressing themselves, standing up for what they believe and redefining what it means to be beautiful,” CoverGirl said in a statement.
“James Charles is no exception. One year ago, he boldly chose to launch his Instagram to the world, using transformative, dynamic makeup looks to showcase the many facets of his personality, serving as an inspiration to anyone who might have been afraid to do the same.”
The news was first announced by Perry, the singer herself a CoverGirl ambassador. She posted a photo with Charles after a photo shoot. “Honored to have the pleasure to announce the very first COVERBOY, James Charles!” she said.
Writing on his Instagram account, the rising beauty industry star exclaimed that he was “beyond excited and overwhelmed and happy and astonished and of course, SHOOK, to announce that I am the newest face of @covergirl”.
He added: “I truly hope that this shows that anyone and everyone can wear makeup and can do anything if you work hard.”
Other celebs who’ve represented the CoverGirl global makeup brand include Drew Barrymore, Ellen DeGeneres, Rihanna, Queen Latifah, Sofia Vergara, Taylor Swift and Pink.
