Pastor Steven Anderson

Steven Anderson, the gay hate pastor coming to South Africa, is upset that he’s become the target of a campaign against his church.

In a YouTube video, he lashed out at people with a “pro-homo” agenda who have made it their “full time job to harass and persecute us, to mess with us any way possible”.

He complained that, for example, an advert for a free 380 litre fish tank had been placed on Craigslist with his church’s details.

“So we just have all these people coming by to pick up the fish tank, Just person after person after person. Or they’ll order pizzas and have em sent to us,” said Anderson.

He pointed out that those ultimately inconvenienced are the people going to fetch the fish tank and the pizza restaurant and pizza delivery driver.

“It doesn’t end up harming us as much as it ends up harming random innocent people. I felt bad for the people showing up for the free furniture… or free tickets to South Africa… I felt bad for these people.”

He explained that’s because, “I’m a normal human being who has empathy for other people.”

While Anderson is quite correct that the stunts are harming innocent people, it is outrageous that he complains of being “harassed and persecuted”.

Perhaps gay people who are truly harassed, persecuted and jailed around the world have more right to complaint.

Equally ridiculous is that he “feels bad” for those inconvenienced yet was happy that 49 people were slaughtered at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando. Where is his empathy for those victims of that horrific crime?

We hope that the good pastor gets a sense of perspective and perhaps considers the inconsistency, absurdity and cruelty of his hateful views.

Anderson, who heads up Tempe’s Faithful Word Baptist Church, is set to visit Johannesburg in a missionary style evangelical excursion to “win souls” for his hateful cause on 18 September.

He has stated that killing gay people would free the world from the AIDS epidemic. “…if you executed the homos like God recommends, you wouldn’t have all this AIDS running rampant,” he said in 2014.

Most recently, Anderson praised the slaughter of 49 (at first thought to be 50) people at the Pulse gay nightclub in Orlando. “The good news is that there’s 50 less paedophiles in this world, because, you know, these homosexuals are a bunch of disgusting perverts and paedophiles,” he proclaimed in a YouTube video the day after the massacre.
