Gay-policeman-proposes-during-London-Pride-paradeA video of a policeman asking his boyfriend for his hand in marriage during London’s Pride Parade has melted hearts around world.

The clip shows a group of police officers walking in Saturday’s parade, when they stop and turn towards the cheering crowd.

Then, one of the officers breaks rank and walks up to his surprised boyfriend, who is standing on the sidelines.

The policeman gets down on one knee and asks: “Jonathan Sammons, will you marry me?” The other man says yes and the two embrace and kiss as the crowd applauds, cheers and shouts out “congratulations!”

Sammons told ITV News that the proposal was a complete surprise:”Speechless! Amazing! Oh my God, I can’t believe he did it.”

It was reported that another couple, both police officers, also got engaged during the parade.

Up to one million people, a record number, turned out for the British capital’s LGBT Pride celebration this year.

The parade was led by Absolutely Fabulous stars Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley who are promoting their new movie.

Among the highlights of the event was London Mayor Sadiq Khan telling the diverse crowd that despite the recent Brexit referendum: “I recognise the huge contribution you make to our city, you are welcome here. I make you this promise as your mayor. That won’t change.”

Ahead of the celebrations, 50 pedestrian traffic signals around Trafalgar Square had their traditional ‘walk’ image replaced with new images depicting gender diversity symbols and a same-sex couple.

The Pride was held under heightened security following the recent deadly attack on the Pulse gay nightclub in Orlando.
