South Africa’s newest gay and lesbian big screen drama, While You Weren’t Looking, premièred at Maponya Mall in Soweto on 29 September.
Described as a complex interweaving tale, it begins twenty years into the new South Africa. It tells the story of an ageing academic and the now ‘straight’ freedom fighter he once loved, while a seemingly perfect lesbian mixed-race family threatens to unravel.
The internationally acclaimed While You Weren’t Looking is the first feature film produced by the Out in Africa Gay and Lesbian Film Festival.
David Penney was at the première to photograph the cast, crew and guests who attended the event. The film is in cinemas now.
