Watch: Gay Italian acrobat proposes on Italy’s Got Talent
A performer on Italy’s Got Talent surprised the judges and audience by proposing to his fellow male acrobat on live national television.
Stefan, one of the out-of breath dancers from the French-Italian Les Farfadais acrobatic troupe, asked the judges for a moment after their routine, which had been performed to The Power of Love.
Holding the microphone and taking a small box from one of the female performers, he shakily turned to his shocked boyfriend, Kyle, with whom he does an aerial ring act.
“So we have performed tonight in a ring… And this ring has brought us together in our work, in our passion, doing what we love,” he said before getting down on one knee and presenting the ring.
His flabbergasted and teary-eyed partner accepted the proposal. The two men shared a kiss on stage as they received a standing ovation from the cheering audience and judges.
Sadly, they won’t be able to get legally married in Italy, where same-sex marriage has yet to become a reality.
Stefan told Italian Vanity Fair after the proposal that, “In addition to making Kyle happy”, he also wanted to make a public gesture that would help gay Italian teenagers who were struggling with acceptance.
