The Intshisekelo Secondary School in Inanda allegedly refused to let Sandile Ndaba, 36, to do his job because of his sexuality.

Even though he reported for work and was paid, he was ordered to stay in the staffroom and not interact with the pupils.

The principal apparently felt that it was inappropriate to have a gay man teaching children. The school claimed, however, that Ndaba was incompetent and often didn’t report for work.

According to Eyewitness News, the KwaZulu-Natal Education Department has instituted an investigation into the matter, saying that discrimination will not be tolerated.

The department’s Muzi Mahlambi also confirmed that Ndaba has now been allowed to resume his duties.

“Duty loads have been re-allocated to him, he is happy, he is now teaching in full force, but we will then investigate other matters,” said Mahlambi.
