FIRESTORM OVER US BIG BROTHER HOMOPHOBIC COMMENTS

Cast members of the latest, 15th season of the Big Brother reality show in the US will face a firestorm after they leave the house, following a series of homophobic and racist comments shown on live internet feeds.

One contestant, GinaMarie, described the welfare system as “n****r insurance,” Aaryn called gay contestant Andy a “queer,” while another, Spencer, dubbed him “Kermit the F*g”.

Talking about smelly sheets, housemate David said they stank because black housemate Candice had been on them.

Aaryn Gries in particular has been singled out.

She commented that “No one’s gonna vote for whoever that queer [Andy] puts up” and that “people love the queers.”

Discussing Candice, she quipped, “be careful what you say in the dark; you might not be able to see that bitch,” while telling housemate Helen, who is Asian, “Go make some f***ing rice”.

Gries’ modelling agency, Zephyr Talent, responded by firing her, posting on Facebook that “she revealed prejudices and other beliefs that we do not condone”.

The show’s broadcaster, CBS, also issued a statement distancing itself from the contestants’ comments.

“At times, the Houseguests reveal prejudices and other beliefs that we do not condone. We certainly find the statements made by several of the Houseguests on the live Internet feed to be offensive,” said CBS, insisting that these “do not represent the views or opinions of CBS or the producers of the program.”

The comments are not expected to be included in the edited televised broadcasts of the show.

Openly gay former Big Brother contestant Ragan Fox, however, challenged CBS, in an open letter, to broadcast the bigoted comments.

“What’s the point of casting racial, ethnic, and sexual minorities if production’s going to edit out the racism, ethnic discrimination, and homophobia that these people encounter inside the house?” wrote Fox.

“Big Brother, I LOVE you, but, if you really want to provide a groundbreaking twist, SHOW CBS VIEWERS HOW SOME STRAIGHT, WHITE PEOPLE talk about gays, Asian Americans, and African Americans.

“What makes Aaryn’s homophobia and racism especially insidious is that it comes packaged in a bright-eyed, pageant-like exterior. I mean, how can somebody so sweet looking spew so much venom? Viewers would have to SEE it to BELIEVE it,” said Fox.
