. Well this once again makes the claim of Cape Town being the ‘Gay Capital of SA’ a bad joke: Just like with Pride every year, the Joburg protest was vastly larger than the Cape Town one… Well done to all the organisers tho! Sad so few people seem to care.
. Were you there Rolando?
. PRECISELY the type of judgmental, prescriptive response that keeps queers like me as far from the marching, moffie hordes as I can get! Am I less gay, do I matter less because I do not need to, don’t wish to wave a flag, or seek out the camera’s lens, or chase the microphone’s attention? No! I have given up on “live and let live” becoming the widespread ‘way of being’ within the queer or any other community, frankly. We all need to take ourselves a little less seriously. Perhaps when we behave accordingly the bigots will find it easier to tolerate our quirks – warts and all. If one chooses not to, that’s fine too of course. But a generous dose of chill pills all around could help enormously.
. Its scary to think after how far we have come forward in this country we are going to take a step back
. An exercise in self promotion by the bandwagoners.
And as for the Soap Girls, I’m sure their hearts are in the right place, but a gay protest rally is not the place to promote their new record
. Scary bunch: its like a fashion parade gone wrong!!! I am gay but to dress like a bunch of clowns no wander we are fighting for our rights
. Self promotion indeed! I cringe everytime i see the “new” gay flag of south africa – is hideous, stupid and loathing. Sharks in bright colours – sorry to be so blunt.
That flag speaks of the divide between South African gays and those from the rest of the continent. Who creates something like that? The flag was created as a unifier, not a divider. Anyways – more like a performance than a march. This lot scares me. White people so quick to react to their rights being infringed, but when they are infringing on gay black/coloureds rights in form of the racist – where are they with their outfits, banners and flags???
And the constitution was never threatened – it was a discussion – you know like what the ANC had with the Afrikaner people? Just another reason to party..
. God you moffies are jealous bitches!!!!!!!! Just because you are too lame to bring out something AMAZING like the gay flag of SA and be the most POPULAR gay group in SA (yes, you btches! ) you just gotta make these comments – Why not comment on the fact that these guys wroked 100’s of hous to mobilise people AROUND the country to execute the best marches and unity EVER in LGBTQ SA! I say the Gay flag of SA is unifying and the rest of you on this prissy agony aunt forum are trying your BEST to divide.
. yes eugene.. promote your own flag.. lets make more money and not release a financial report after each year and live like kings and queens when you all claim that the proceeds would go to a “NGO”.. riiiiiight! Over it, the flag is not original, sorry if you feel offended – its two well known flags superimposed.. How original.. NOT! The government should actually sue you guys lol! Cause the National Flag belongs to the people, just like the rainbow flag belongs to gay people.. you shouldnt actually use it to make a profit. Shame on you lot for supporting these sharks..
. Who is Eugene? Do u r an asshole
. Why does MAMBAONLINE allow such ABUSE on their site when they should know well enoiugh what the truth is – there are A SELECT FEW individuals who have a PERSONAL grudge against the flag and use these sites to spread theri agendas and manipulatve ways to break down any one trying to do something that was not started by them….
. Been watching this group fr more than a year. I work for national media broadcasting company. I cn confirm there is NO other gay group in SA that has been able to promote gay rights internationally (CNN, BBC, even other channels in the USA) and locally like the Gay Flag Of RSA. Here are facts – Exhibitionsit activism (as they are called) works – it attracts media because it is INTERESTING followed by strong messages AND actions (like they have proven with the country-wide marches). LGBTI SA needs MAINSTREAM meadia attention. VERY VERY difficlt task (yet they make it seem so easy, but it is not). Mainstream media usually print or televise gay scandals or negativity – the media have started to love these guys (gay flag) which is VERY rare. There is NOTHING wrong with self promotion or being “different” whilst fighting for good causes. The general public and media are loath to respond to nobodies or people with little appeal (sory, but that is reality, only a very few have what we call teh X-Factor). This is why we use folks like Johnny Clegg in the fight against rhino poaching whilst promoting himself and their collaborative CD single. That is how it works. I hope that I have been able make my point clear. I hope so. Do not discourage the gay flag of RSA. It is a brilliant concept and we see it more as a unifying project with lots of glamour and excitement (Activists yelling and screaming outside parliament won’t attract media. Do you think the march would have been televised on 4 channels if the gay flag boys were not there? I can tell you straight NO.
. Actually – the media is not a fan of them – its more a case of lets make nuisance of ourselves and force ourselves on it. Secondly – In South Africa we have been marching for many years – hell our struggle for a democracy alone attest to that – without the “Exhibitionist activism” that you refer too. If anything – people in the street are more interested in the spectacle than the cause – FACT. Secondly, we tend to fuel the stereotypes – why must we confirm to it and let young gay children believe thats what it takes to be gay? To act and dress weird, be a drag queen etc etc… In fact we cause more harm by doing so and subject them to being bullied which ultimately leads to more suicides – we have seen this too many times before. We must rather educate people and tell them that ordinary people are gay – we are your doctors, nurses, lawyers, parents, chidren etc// not what this lot is trying to showcase. This post sounds like a big fan and chooses to overlook the obvious. GAY FLAG of SA is an opportunist group who has patented its plagiarized “design” and is a registered company that is for profit. Dont let these sharks in bright coloures fool you all.
Its very similar to how the DA march for a youth grant forcing everyone who might not belong to the DA to wear DA T-Shirts. How do you march for a cause when it is being made political or monetary? What if you believe in the cause but not the party/organization – must you be forced to conform or pullout? Both sounds wrong.
. @No – I challenge you to get a SABC news or CNN or BBC news interview- ya….didn’t think so.
. @No. I am GLAD there are groups who are proud of us (Drag Queesn, freaks, call us whatever you want) Shame on you! Wy should we be hidden? Thank god for the GFSA!!! We are proud of you as well for not being ashamed of us. There is not ONLY and L and a G in LGBTI you asshole (I refer to “NO” saying why must we confirm to it and let young gay children believe thats what it takes to be gay? “To act and dress weird, be a drag queen etc etc….”) What about the children who WANT to be drag queens or act weird or dress weird? I wore a dress at the age of 5 and in those days of I could have seen drag queens waving a gay flag and changing hearts and LEADING marches and talking INTELLIGENTLY on SABC – god it would have made things easier for me. SO SHUT THE FUCK UP and ejoy the ride honey or get back into your gay KASSIE. PS If you can do better and create more media attention (WHAT WE NEED!) see how mch you can do in your suit as a LAWYER, BORING WHATEVER or a NURSE (mind you…I have a nurse’s outfit that ROCKS on me!!)
. Im a bit disappointed at how you responded. This is precisely what is being said about the LGBTIQ community. Anything that speaks against us becomes an issue – nothing wrong with being a drag queen – and i dont think NO was saying that – but rather we are buying into the idea that all gay people are about is screaming, loud and obnoxious weird fucks who always forces the gay agenda. I agree that we must have groups that also represent the DRAG QUEENS etc, but for heavens sake don’t overshadow the whole thing and make it all about you! The GFSA is pretty crap – i have to admit that. It is not very GENIUS and does come across more like a money making scam if we honestly think about it. Many of my friends dont own such a flag – the universal gay flag is enough. No one is an “asshole”, the only one that becomes one is one that is intolerant – and perhaps NO comes across that way, but now you too fall into that category. Just like Coennie Kukkuk and Weyer.. All assholes with an agenda to own the gay community – GFSA is now part of it. Why not share and enjoy our sexuality – but without fueling the stereotypes – stop pretending or wanting to fit in. thats the problem – we are so desperate for attention that we have to dress up and put on a show.. just be you – and all will be ok.
. Thanks GFSA for all your hard work. I think few people know what it takes to arrange a NATION-WIDE protest. You are doing the right thing. KEEP ON WITH IT and don’t FOR ONE SECOND be saddended or unmotivated by people who come on Mambaonline to diss you so that they can feel better about themselves. There are only a FEW individuals on earth like you who really care and who work every day and fight every day for OUR rights (yes even for the rights of the guys on here who are against ANY GAY GROUPS getting more attention than them even when they are not even of importance). WE LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
