Cape Town police have announced that they are looking for a man in connection with the murder of gay nightclub owner Bruno Bronn.

Bronn’s body was found by a domestic worker at his Sea Point home on Tuesday morning.

He was the owner of the popular Bronx and Navigaytion nightclubs that recently closed down.

Warrant Officer November Filander told Mambaonline that police are asking for the assistance of the community in tracing the whereabouts of 36-year-old John Frederick Coetzee.

“We can’t get hold of Mr. Coetzee which is why we are asking him or the public to come forward,” Filander said.

When asked if Coetzee was a suspect in the murder, Filander replied that the man was not a suspect at this stage. “We just need to first question him with regard to this murder.”

Filander said that he could not confirm if Coetzee was a member of the gay community but revealed that he “was a close friend of the deceased”.

Coetzee may be the man that Bronn’s friends have pointed out as having recently harassed him.

“He has stolen from him before, money and traveller’s cheques… This person was seen in Bruno’s BMW earlier the morning he was found,” Ari Nitzan, a DJ at Navigaytion, told the Cape Times.

“He used Bruno for money and we tried to warn Bruno because he was such a lovely man but he was lonely and he just went for any companionship,” Nitzan said.

Filander urged anyone with any information about Coetzee to contact 079 505 6171 or 021 430 3700.
