LESBIAN TEEN PROM STORY TO BECOME MOVIE
The ABC Family network is developing a television movie about a teenager who was barred from attending her school prom with her girlfriend.
In March this year Constance McMillen’s school in Mississippi chose to cancel its prom rather than allow her to attend with a female partner and wear a tuxedo.
School officials later put on a “decoy” prom for her while the rest of her classmates were at a separate private prom.
McMillen went on to successfully sue the school which agreed to implement a non-discrimination policy on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity and to pay her damages.
The movie is in the early stages of development by openly gay producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron and is being written by Ghost Whisperer creator/executive producer John Gray, who may also direct.
