The 21st Joburg Pride Parade snaked its way through the streets of Rosebank, featuring thousands of marchers, floats and open top buses and bringing traffic to a standstill.

Just a few things they need to sort out.
1 what the hell with the pink money and stopping people bringing water in that they were drinking, yea we need to make money but dont take advantage of people.
2 We need to celabrate Gay Pride….the stage did not say we were at Gay pride..
yea We know what pride is but the stage only said Pride 94.7 come on guys where was the gay flag or even a red ribon.
over all a good day was had and we should be proud of our day… as long as we keep it OUR DAY.

Greedy Pride. I am and have always been a huge fan of Joburg Pride. And even though I have sung the praises of the new Pride board, and the fantastic things they have accomplished, I was disappointed this year by how it was done.
Firstly, I understand the fact that they did not want people to take in food and water, although, is water such a huge thing? But when the thousands of marchers came back from an extremely hot walk (and I saw NO waterpoints this year), suddenly every single person had to be searched for water, by 3 or 4 security guys. It was infuriating! I did not even have water or anything, but I was stuck in the stampede of people.
To make things worse, when we almost got to the entrance I saw the asshole security guys being insulting and extremely rude to people. The one guard actually said “Fuck you” to a guy. What the hell? Another one was refusing to let a guy with a water cooler in, even AFTER the guy opened the container and showed him that it is empty. So by the time we got in eventually, everyone was angry and irritated, which spoiled the mood.
Then, after being refused to enter with any fluid, everyone stormed the waterholes, only to find out that you had to have that stupid pink money tokens before you could even BUY water. So the irritation grew more.
Then we saw that the queue for the fucking tokens is snaking over the entire field. What absolute and utter bullshit!!!
Really, if you WANT to control the entrance, thats fine, but get PROFFESIONALS to do it, and enough of them to handle a crowd of a few thousand. Not just 3 or 4 rude assholes. Please spend the money you extort from us next year to pay for this.
And please, please, if you insist on using the stupid tokens please put up points to buy them everywhere, so that not every single person there needs to storm the same place.
The fact that you could not return the tokens shows the greed – not EVERYONE there WANTS to go clubbing afterwards. That and the fact that the master of ceremony implored everyone to “SPEND MONEY” with every announcement he made. GREED! And what is this R5 for a stupid plastic glass? Those glasses are under R1, and at least THAT could have been free, because after we bought drinks for the whole group, we spent R60 more than we thought we would, so we had to go BACK to the stupid tokens queue for the next round.
I do encourage you to be very transparent with how you spend the money for next year that we paid, because to me it looks like some of you are trying to turn this non-profit thing into a secret profit for some, much like the current government.
It is starting to look like you are just USING the gay community, not serving them like you were supposed to do.

Agreed. I didn’t notice rudeness from security staff first hand, but I agree with your comments. It would seem as if the pride board has now become so arrogant and self-serving that it may well be time to have them replaced. This cannot continue.
Also, as predicted, the after party was the greatest waste of time and money, with more pink token crap. And after realising that the party was a waste of time and money you couldn’t return the tokens you had to use them up. Shrewd money-making tactics but indicative of the prevailing attitude among the pride board. I won’t go to another official after party again, ever. Sonique was great for the first 30 minutes, after which thumpa thumpa thumpa… Urgh.
It’s high time that they retire and move on.

TOKEN. The token system worked perfectly at most of the out door Jazz festivals. Pls explain me how the fuck can gay ppl who arrange events not get it right. All greed it was. Why not have a token stand in each tent and around the venue and at the food court. If it was a security issue. Its worked at the Jazz festivals so do you’ll honestly think us gay pple would want to steal and rob from you. We are happy to spend our PINK money or a service or event that is well put together
Let me not even get into the food court area. What bleady toilets near the food. Why should I buy and eat food while watching someone open the door with his dick all exposed.
R5 for a glass. Are you fucken kidding me. We had to pay what R15 for a beer or cider and then pay R5 for a plastic fucken cup. Are you guys like fucken for real?????

Brilliant!!!. Big thanks to the organisers. Just a few years ago the Zoo Lake party was extremely sad and seedy. Now it ROCKS!!

Tokens…and disrespect.. Come now people. I am also a businessman, so I like you am a fan of making money through hard work, transparency and customer respect. After a wonderful march, I could not help but feel complete disrespect. I was fortunate not to have anything on me at the gate, so I was not treated with the disdain others were. I personally witnessed unnecessary aggression directed at marchers, and demands that they discard their water, drinks and food before entering. This after a long walk, in extremely hot weather. The fact that there were no water points along the way, made complete sense when introduced to the pink tokens.
In the end after a long wait for a handful of tokens, I was equally distressed to find how prices had been inflated. R15 for a soft drink, which retails for R8, amount to to nothing more than excessive and unnecessary profiteering. I was left feeling used, unappreciated and commercially exploited, by the very people I had ironically come to support.
This cannot be allowed to continue.
agreed. it was ridiculous! practically fucking cavity searched at the entrance – and the guy at the small gate was such a cunt (had the worst most aggresive demeanor ever). Was told i couldnt take in my EMPTY waterbottle! R15 for a fucking Fanta grape! was considering going to sit with the christians – at least they offered free coffee. So cool that it’s a charity event, so inflate away at the prices of booze etc – but how bad that a family, with kids can’t come in and enjoy a picnic!! Also fuckol vegetarian options where food is concerned, not enough shade, dusty and hot and miserable! Have been going to pride for like 15 years now and i’ll probably keep going in all honesty but next year i certainly won’t be “putting the date aside”. Also, how about hiring security that don’t undress the lesbians with their eyes in the most violating way – am a guy, not a lesbian but saw it with my own eyes and it enraged me!

AGM. Those that have issues with 2010 Joburg Pride, there is an AGM held at the beginning of each year, usually around March / April – why not come and air your views there, that’s the platform that can be used to make changes. Joburg Pride is a community event so the community should come and say what they feel should be done, then stand up, volunteer, put in a years work and make it happen.
-. Been there, tried that and couldn’t gain entry to the inner circle. They act out of self-interest and anyone who challenges the status quo gets sidlined or excluded.

Shit Stirring … The only reason why they harp on about personal financial gain is because legally Joburg Pride is 100% legit and they can’t actually prove that Joburg Pride is doing anything wrong so it’s easy to throw slander around and make assumptions and accusations because in actual fact the two main culprits behind the shit stirring PR and BW can prove fuck all. We are all SO tired of you two harping on and on and on and on about .. it’s all over Facebook and pretty much anywhere you think you can get an audience, pull your fingers out your arses as much as you may enjoy your fingers up there, stand up and stop bitching make peace and let’s work together. No wonder no one takes gay people seriously .. look how we all carry on. Sickening.
