MCDONALD’S AIRS GAY AD
US fast food giant McDonald’s has produced its first gay-themed television ad for broadcast in France.
The advert shows a teenager in a McDonald’s restaurant waiting for his father to return from the order counter.
He chats romantically on his cell phone to a classmate while glancing at his class picture.
The boy hangs up when his father arrives. As they eat, the man looks at the picture and comments that it’s a pity that his class consists only of boys.
The young man simply smiles at his father.
The advertisement ends with the tagline “Come as you are”.
According to McDonald’s, the ad intends to show that everyone is welcome at its restaurants.
Some have commented that, ironically, the fast food chain would find it difficult to broadcast a similar ad in its home country.
Watch the advert below.
….. Great ad! But in the cesspool of ignorance that is America this ad has no chance of being aired.
nice………
Oooh gurrl…. I would so like to beat this boy with my salami, and rub him with my cream cheese. Screw the Mc Donald’s, I’ll take the boy. Supersized. With a side of fries. And diet Coke. Thanks. Bye.
Stupid AD. I don’t think this is a positive AD at all, it borders on homophobia and heterosexism.
a. I mean c’mon the dad goes on in typical hetero-normative fashion that his son could have any girl he wanted?!?
b. The teen has to hang up (jump back into the closet) because of fear of his dad hearing him speak to another guy.
c. His dad is like “too bad all your classmates are boys” what is bad about that?!?
d. then they end the AD with come as you are?!? and wot is that an ignorant dad or a gay teen in the closet?
Diddo. Exactly. Come as you are? Who are you kidding? The dad is blissfully unaware of the flirtation between his son and buddy. The son has to hang up (hide who he is) when dad approaches. Nobody in the ad is really ‘as they are’!
Nice gesture. As I understand the ad, it is saying:- while it is difficult to be gay in society, as far as McDonald’s is concerned, they are accepting of gays.
Obviously, they want our business, but this is a nice gesture from them. They didn’t have to bother, since nobody’s accusing them of being homophobic.
