GATELY’S HUSBAND SPEAKS OUT
Stephen Gately’s civil partner Andrew Cowles has spoken out in depth for the first time since the death of the Boyzone star last year.
In an interview with the Daily Mirror, Cowles (32) revealed that he was with Gately (33) when he died.
“We know from the pathologist’s report that Stephen died sleeping with me on the sofa. I know that my boy fell asleep under my arm, his heart stopped, he didn’t feel any pain,” he told the newspaper.
“…it was a few good hours before I realised he wasn’t sleeping,” Cowles added.
“The night he died, we’d had such a good time, a lovely evening in our favourite restaurant. He was the most happy and confident he’d been in his life, and he’d just finished his book.”
Gately’s first book, A Tree of Seasons, a children’s novel, will be published this week in the UK and includes a foreword by Elton John and David Furnish.
“He was so proud of that book, and I am so proud of him. It’s going to surprise people. Stephen poured four years into writing this thing and he has an amazing imagination,” said Cowles.
Gately died at his holiday home in Majorca in October last year after a night out with Cowles. An autopsy revealed that Gately had died of natural causes related to a previously undiagnosed heart condition.
