MICROSOFT DONATES TO GAY EQUALITY
The world’s biggest software company has donated $100,000 towards a campaign to ensure gay equality in the state of Washington.
The Microsoft Corporation’s donation to Washington Families Standing Together came to light in a report filed with the state Public Disclosure Commission.
The funds will go towards approving Referendum 71, a referendum on the state’s domestic-partnership law that aims to give equal adoption and other relationship rights to same-sex couples.
It is believed that the donation is the largest in the campaign with around $800,000 being donated to the pro-gay lobby while only around $60,000given to those opposed to the law.
Activists have praised Microsoft for its stance, noting that it could, as a result, be on the receiving end of a considerable conservative backlash and even a boycott of its products.
