Al-Qaeda, the Islamic terrorist organisation, is said to be raping young male recruits to drive them to become suicide bombers.

The claim was made by Algerian militant Abu Baçir El Assimi, reports Britain’s The Sun newspaper.

“The sexual act on young recruits aged between 16 to 19 was a means to urge them to commit suicide operations,” he said.

According to the newspaper article, titled Al-Qaeda in gay rape horror, the “intense social stigma and fear of more gay sex attacks leaves Muslims prepared to die.”

The report appears to be confirmed by an autopsy on a would-be bomber who was killed by security forces in an attempted attack in Algeria. He was apparently found to have signs of being raped.

Al-Qaeda was founded in 1988 and has been linked to numerous terrorist attacks on military and civilian targets; most notoriously the September 11 attacks on the Wold Trade Centre in 2001.
