The Same Old…. Friday night came, and me, and two of my friends were out on the town. We went to variours places, in Rosebank, Norwood, Melville and Carfax… Although we were in the car more than in one club… However we decided to venture to Therepy. Need i say more… it was an adventure finding the place…. Who the hell knows that area? (im from Sandton, so that was like a whole different city) However I decided i needed to go, so that i could support dear Tamara Gay – i mean Dey. So after clubbing at all the straight clubs, because i like R&B, HIP HOP and FUNKY HOUSE, we decided to try find our way to Oxford road, (which was not in rosebank-to be clear) after nearly 40 minutes in the car, and stopping off at 3 BP garages, THANK GOD for Wild Bean Cafe, we found the place. An old factory of sorts, with parking, but no car gaurds. Lucky we found a parking in the parking lot, outside the enterance. On arrival, i was petrified, the car park was filled with GAYS. Stereotypical GAYS. Skinny B#TCHES with their FAKE D&G jeans and designer labels. Then when we got to the door, i was a bit confused cause i thought this was THEREPY DELUXE not “security search me DELUXE.” But i did not mind him touching me with his big, dirtty hands… (not) I then heard one of the body gaurds calling out BEYONCE, and i nearly fell over, OMG! i thought BEYONCE was there, but no she was not, it turned out the one bouncers names was Beyonce, which made me think what the other guys name could have been, KYLIE or CHRISTINA or MADONNA? Then i was in a complete state of confussion on why the one security gaurd, lets say Madonna, searched me, whilst CHRISTINA and LIL KIM at the top of the stairs wanted me to be searched again. And to make it worse body gaurds WHITNEY and BRITNEY made me enter the club in this cheap attempt of a post office door. Did they think the gays were gonnna rob the place with our lip gloss and pringle purses? However, at this point i was nearly star struck, because i saw TAMARA, (the actual TAMARA, not the gentleman from the CONGO) But on entery of the club, i was disgusted, it looked like some club in PRETORIA or East Rand, and the 2 door whores? (they must have been onschool holiday) And the music… I missed TAMARA perform, but by the looks of the pictures she looked good as usual. BUT THE MUSIC, the same old dededede… (rave/dance/techno) when are we gonna try listen to something new? when are we gonna have a jazz gay party? or a hip hop gay party? or a kwaito gay party. It just seems that these partys are always aimed at a certain demographic… And its a far drive for them to get back to Kempton Park and Florida. And how can onE possibly mEEt a man at thEsE EvEnts whEn thEy arE all on EEEEE?
I just thought it was the same old… whoever organized it, has realised that they have something that works and they just gonna stick to it, and drain us from our cash.
I would like to propose to the organizers of this event, to try something new… something fresh… something for young gay south africans.
PLEASE! (i am not hating what you are doing, and i congratulate you on you effoerts, but nothing will compare to the ORIGINAL Therepy…)
I’m confused. Mike, I’m confused. How can you complain that Therapy is aimed at a certain demographic and plays certain music. That’s WHAT THERAPY IS! It’s like complaining that a lion doesn’t look like an elephant. What did you expect from Therapy? A jazz evening? A classical recital? A hip hop bash? Am I missing something. For my money I got exactly what I expected and hoped for. You could argue that there isn’t enough variety in the gay scene (and I’d agree with you), but that’s not Therapy’s fault. And god, do try keep it brief. We don’t all have time to read a novel…

I did not mean THEREPY to be specific, and i am glad you mentioned that, its just that it was THEREPY that made me really sit down and think about it… there were a few gay party’s last weekend, and this weekend, and i can assure you they will be playing the same type of music, charging the same ridiculous prices, filled with the same people…
im glad you feel the same way about a larger variety needed for our community, i thought i was the only one.

Awesome party, great venue. What a smashing party!!! It was sooooo much fun. The venue was cool too, yes maybe there could be a lil bit of extra effort put into zooshing it up more, but it was still great! Can we have MORE MORE MORE regular parties here? The only downside to me too was the security, but more even, the access control. You got squashed into the lil cubicle, not knowing what to do, and if you dared feeling claustrofobic and touched the door, you got a dirty look or a nasty comment from the doorboy. No no. It felt like getting into a crowded bank, only, you are treated like a bankrobber. But I can even look past that. Tamara was BRILLIANT, although the sound was a bit soft at the back and you couldn’t hear what she said. But all in all, I give it a 7.5 out of 10, with a LOT more potential. At least this venue is not in the CBD in dodgy places. It even felt a lil like the old Bitch at times. Can we not make this place a regular weekened party? And put some money into making the venue even better… Thanks everyone for organising this one… cannot wait till the next one…

to all of you whiners….. As a fellow club promoter, it is no use dissing the only people that have the balls to put their money where their mouth is and give all you bitter fags a place to go. Fulvio has MANY years experience on running clubs and hosting parties, I have had many interactions with him on an ‘in club’ and ‘out club’ environment, you should be a little more gratefull…
So you didnt like the venue, so you didnt like the security. so you didnt like the drags? So fucking what, rather make a suggestion instead of getting on the back of a club or party promoter. Ive read time and time again the personal attacks on club promoters, if you fuckwits can do better PLEASE do! Then it would give us guys that try give you guys a place to be yourselves a break…

It was a good party. It was a great party and alot of fun. It is good to have variety and definately had something different catering for everyone. It was a great night out.

Old School. OK – so the venue wasn’t The Palms or Tabboo but I don’t think Therapy was ever meant to be about that! Sure I think a little it more work is required on the venue but I think that party was exactly what Therapy was about :- the music, vibe and party people!
One thing you can’t deny – that dancefloor was electric! It gave me the goosies and reminded me of good ol’ classic CLUBBING!
As to the bashing of club owners – a few weeks back someone had a go at Bruce just after Risque opened. Then Stuart was blasted and now Fulvio. I’m glad Mamba removed the posts as they’re bad taste.
I really don’t get why we as a community have to be so ..err.. fucked up are the only words! 1st everyone complains that there’s not enough gay venues in jozi then the moment there is something, the venom comes out! I know I wouldn’t have the guts to do something merely cos I’d hate to read the shit about myself!
Well for all the negetive out there, let me be one of the guys who says thanks! Thanks to Bruce, Stuart, Fulvio & Peter. Also Groovy Q, Cyril and the Swanky guys (i think it’s Greg?) Also though it’s not my style or scene Miss B from ex Ramps and now Legends and all the drags who make the effort!

Agreed. hey I do agree, at least these guys are trying to put something out there. Thanks to all of you. But I also think that they should take some good out of the negative posts and try to improve as well, it could only benifit all of us, them included. Obviously you will NEVER be able to satisfy everybody, so they shouldn’t let the bitterness and negative comments deter them at all. I LURVED this party, And I think Stuart ROCKS!! To all the whiners out there…. To the organisers – thanks for at least TRYING to provide something – even if it didn’t “suit” all “tastes. At least you are making an effort. Brings to mind the old cliche of “Those that can, do. Those that can’t, talk about it.”
That said, the whiners out there kvetching about having to drive around and whining about spending money etc. : You need to get over yourselves. You’re all so quick to bitch and moan, how about putting your money where your mouths are and DOING something positive yourselves? Surely there are some amongst you with the business acumen, financial resources, network of contacts etc. to PUT SOMETHING TOGETHER. Or is it easier to blast the people who’ve had the balls to make an attempt? All the bitching merely serves to highlight the difference between “moffie” and “gay”. Gay men don’t sit back and whine…
