THOMAS BEATIE GIVES BIRTH

The transgendered man surrounded by controversy over his pregnancy has given birth to a healthy baby girl.

Thomas Beatie, a legally defined ‘man’ has been released from a hospital in Bend, Oregon with the child that he birthed yesterday.

Beatie, 34, who has legally been a man for the past decade, attracted worldwide attention after discussing his pregnancy on The Oprah Winfrey Show in April. He kept his original female reproductive organs while undergoing breast reduction and hormone therapy.

Two years ago, he decided to stop his hormone treatments and pursue the route of artificial insemination when he discovered that his wife, Nancy, was unable to conceive a child.

“I’m a person and I have the right to have my own biological child,” he said, addressing the controversy. “If Nancy could get pregnant, I wouldn’t be doing this.”

Beatie first became pregnant with triplets, but lost the pregnancy after it became life-threatening; and aside from the media firestorm, he has had no troubles with his second pregnancy.

Some doctors refused to treat the pregnant man due to religious beliefs, with another refusing to treat the couple after consulting an ethics board.

“Our situation sparks legal, political, and social unknowns,” Beatie claimed, adding that the couple had experienced much opposition from health care professionals, friends and family.”
